BY OLDTIMER TRAIN ON THE TRANSALPINA RAILWAY
A RIDE OF THE PAST; FROM NOVA GORICA (SLO) TO BLED (SLO) – 2019

Departure from the railway stations of Nova Gorica (Slo) and Most na Soči (Slo) for a unique Oldtimer train ride.
The train will ride on a part of a historical “Transalpina Railway“, which was inaugurated on July 19th 1906 in order to complete the railway that linked Vienna and Central Europewith the Adriatic regions of Austro-Hungarian Empire, especially with the port at Trieste.
The construction of the railway was for those times very complicated and demanded numerous exceptional architectural achievements (tunnels, bridges, viaducts etc.), which made the railway famous. Especially remarkable are the bridge of Solkan with its 85 metres long arcade, which is still world largest, and the tunnel of Podbrdo, the genuine passing under the Julian Alps with the length of 6327 metres.
World conflicts of the previous century have caused Transalpina loose its role of a great commercial railway and made it a secondary line, which is nowadays reviving as a touristic railway connecting Austria, Slovenia and Italy.
The Oldtimer train will be pulled by a steam engine from the Railway Museum of Ljubljana. In case of danger of fire the steam engine will be substituted by a diesel engine.
From the train station of Nova Gorica (Slovenia) we will immediately enter the landscape of incomparable and numerous beauties that runs along the wonderful Soča and Sava rivers

Arrival at the Bled station and transfer by bus to a guided tour of the castle. Lunch in a restaurant above the lake follows.
After lunch some free-time for visiting the town and the lake, one of the most beautiful renowned sites of Slovenia.
A guide will be accompanying the passengers for the whole ride in the Oldtimer train.
In the afternoon transfer back to the station and the return ride by train pulled by a steam engine and in the evening arrival at the respective stations of departure.

Departurtes:Nova Gorica – 8.45, Most na Soči – 9.23, Bled – 11.05 ca.

Arrivals: Bled – 17.48, Nova Gorica – 19.45 ca.

Prices:

adults: 90 euro
youngsters (from 12 to 16 years): 50 euro
youngsters (from 6 to 11 years): 40 euro
children (form 0 to 5 years): gratis (lunch not included)

Only train (both directions):

adults: 45 euro, youngsters (from 12 to 16 years): 30 euro, child (from 6 to 11 years): 25 euro

The price includes:

– ride by the Oldtimer train (section Nova Gorica – Bled – Nova Gorica with a steam engine.
– transfer by bus at Bled
– entrance at Bled castle
– lunch at restaurant (a glass of wine, table water, juice for children)
